Magnetoresistive Sensors function on the principle of magnetoresistive effect where the magnetic field changes the resistivity of current. Their non contact operation eliminates wear and friction. Potential applications of Magnetoresistive Sensors include linear displacement measurement, current measurement and metal detection. They are also used in polarity independent applications, presence/absence detection and lid sensor for laptop computers.
This Magnetoresistive Sensor from Honeywell is operated by magnetic fields, parallel to the magnetoresistive element. Honeywell 2SS52M is small in size and has digital current sinking output. It is omnipolar that is; it can be operated with either North or South magnetic pole. The integrated circuit the magnetoresistive sensor provides a digital output in response to very low magnetic fields.
