The Magnetoresistive Sensor 2SS52M-S from Honeywell is small in size and has digital current sinking output. This Honeywell magnetoresistive sensor is omnipolar, i.e. it can be operated with either North or South magnetic pole. It is used in position sensors for material handling equipment, cylinder position sensing in pneumatic cylinders, polarity independent applications, presence/absence detection and lid sensor for laptop computers.
Magnetoresistive Sensors function on the principle of magnetoresistive effect wherein the magnetic field changes the resistivity of current. Their non contact operation gets rid of wear and friction. The integrated circuit in this magnetic sensor provides a digital output in response to very low magnetic fields. Potential applications of Magnetoresistive Sensors include linear displacement measurement, current measurement and metal detection.
