Photointerrupters are devices used to detect rotation or linear movement of an object. Interruption of the light beam is utilized as an indicator to point whether there is an object between the source of light and the detector. Photointerrupters combine optical receiving and transmitting functions. Their potential applications include vending machines, copiers and printers.
